Autoresponder is installed on paratenki.com. If you send e-mail to kirikabu@paratenki.com, you'll get the weather data for the last hour. It works with keitai phones too, and saves money since mail-traffic is cheaper than web-traffic. No need to call Satsuma-ramen shop and ask about the weather anymore =)

May 2, 2009 – 8pm

Came back from the mountains. Despite nice weather, new station was installed on Kirikabu-yama and a little bit tested today. I hope it will be useful in tomorrow's local competition rounds.

Please, don't be scared by nasty-looking boxes. I've ordered some parts, but they were delayed so I had to improvise with carbon boxes to make a kind of enclosure and avoid dangling wires. Real thing is supposed to be much smaller and prettier. Still, it shows nice north-western wind of 1.8 m/s and temperature 24`C.

May 2, 2009 – 2am

Today is going to be a nice sunny day. The first day when this web-site is open (i'm writing this down so I don't forget =). Right now I'm writing this short introduction and in the morning I'm going to visit a friendly site in Oita-ken to deploy the first weather station. Still in development and maybe to be replaced soon, but we are already able to collect the data, and this will be our first test installation. I hope everything goes well tomorrow.

Apr 29, 2009

Actually we weren't open at that time, but it was the first day when we began the preparation for our first deployment. A very nice piece of pinewood was cut and prepared as the foundation. Here are some pictures:

And yeah, evening flying was magical. I've spent almost all day testing, so I took off around 5pm expecting a short sled ride, but somehow managed to fly about an hour to land back to the top around 6pm.

How does it work?

The basic idea is very simple. Set up a weather station on the mountain top. More…
